So where do you start when planning a cruise? First what is your budget like? As the economy continues to be a major concern in the news, do you need to cut back on expenses? Then here are a few tips of economizing when scheduling your cruise.

You should be aware that there are off season and on season dates. You want to schedule your trip in the off season to get the best deals. Cruise lines actually change prices a number of times throughout the year. Ask your travel agent to find out where there’s absolute lowest season prices are. Keep your plans somewhat flexible. Sometimes a ship is not filled to capacity, so the cruise line will sell the last few tickets at a real bargain. It is always to the cruise lines advantage to sail filled to capacity because people on cruises spend money. This can make a big difference in your cost. Another consideration is whether you really care about those cruise excursions. If you just want to stay on the cruise ship and enjoy the luxuries, book a cruise that doesn’t stop anywhere. They are called “cruises to nowhwere” and they are just as luxurious as the other cruises but cost less.

Be Safe On A Cruise

To be safe on a cruise, don’t take a lot of expensive equipment or jewelry with you. Make sure your passport, health insurance and other papers are up to date. Laws in ports and even in the water can vary, and you sure don’t want a big hassle with a foreign law enforcement agency.

If all you can spare is a week, your choices will be determined by that time, and your travel agent can steer you toward the best value for the time you have to spend. If you have a longer period of time – say, two weeks – your options will be broader, but you should consider whether you want to visit a lot of ports, or select a more leisurely cruise with fewer destinations but more time to unwind onboard.
