Glamping UK

Interested in a location to camp in the UK ? Wapsbourne Manor Farm, or ‘Wowo’, as it’s affectionately known by a growing band of regulars, is a rare and beautiful thing – a great campsite within just two hours’ drive of London. It’s light on unnecessary rules and regulations and big on fun and freedom. There’s always something fun going on during summer weekend evenings: soup suppers; pizza making; and plenty of mingling. Children’s entertainment is strictly of the old-school variety: climbing trees, swinging on tyres and making camps in the undergrowth. In fact, the entire 150- acre site is a huge, natural playground extending well beyond the four main camping areas. Saturday night is music night, with free camping for musicians in return for sing-songs around the fire.

A no frills, back to basics, right in the middle of nowhere style of camping, you’ll be blessed with gorgeous views of the Oxfordshire countryside, sheep, cows and nature at its best. A 380-acre farm, you won’t have to worry about stepping on your neighbour’s picnic blanket or tripping over their woodstove. But you will need all the bits and bobs for stripped back, wild camping – and don’t be surprised if you hear strange sounds in the dead of night.

A well-kept secret for years, and now under new management, the tiny campsite on Walberswick Beach offers peace, privacy, a beautiful location – and very little else. You pitch your tent among some beach huts, walk 10m through the dunes, and the waves are lapping against your toes. Facilities are limited to a fresh water tap; there are public loos in the village, a shop, and a couple of excellent (though often busy) pubs. Nearby attractions include the charming seaside resort of Southwold, famous for its grand pier and an iconic lighthouse that rises above the houses in the town centre.

Alde Garden, Suffolk ; At this tiny, idyllic Suffolk retreat you can choose to stay in a yurt, bell tent, gypsy caravan, woodland hideout or even experience full-blown country living in Badger Cottage – or just bring a standard tent to pitch. It’s a lovely, tranquil spot surrounded by greenery and woodland, full of ducks and chickens. Oh, and the site is actually set in the grounds of a rather belting pub – the Sweffling White Horse – which serves all kinds of local ales and has won several CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) awards. Bliss. The White Horse Inn, Low Road, Sweffling, Suffolk, IP17 2BB.
